At a summit in Geneva this week, President Biden gifted Russian President Vladimir Putin a crystal American Bison, adding that our national mammal is "representative of strength, unity, resilience,". Buffalo are natural leaders of their herds, whose strength has inspired American Leaders for thousands of years. The buffalo's commitment to the herd provides a good model for human politics and for diplomatic outreach to foreign countries. We are encouraged that President Biden is drawing on the qualities of the buffalo to inform his leadership. We urge President Biden to pass protections for wild buffalo and their habitat by expanding the National Bison Legacy Act that named buffalo our national mammal. |
